2nd place in the GP of Spain on a Borrowed Ski! - Press releaseBy: Stian SchjetleinThe second round of the Aquabike World Championship, the Grand Prix of Spain was definitely the most exciting race so far this season.Right before the race we had some issues with my engine and I had to borrow a stock sxr hull with a stock zxi engine to use in the Pole Position race.I had no time to get used to the ski, but still managed to capture a 6th place (out of 24) in the pole position. In the first moto I lost two spots in the start as I was still riding the stock hull, stock engine, but managed to pass my way back up to 5th place. This was very important for me as it meant that I would start in the front row for the 2nd moto.In the second moto I managed to keep my position through the start and defend against the faster skis coming from the back. After the start I did all I could to stay with the leader group and we pulled away from the rest of the field pretty fast. After a 20 minute moto, I ended up in 3rd place, which fortunately was good enough for a second place overall as several of the riders in front of me had very inconsistent results.I am extremely happy with my 2nd place finish as I was set on spending the weekend doing damage control as I had to use a very slow backup ski.My second place this weekend moved me up from 4th to 2nd place in the overall standings of the World Championship. I am very pleased with my damage control weekend turning into a great success. I will be bringing a lot of good points with me as the Aquabike World Championship heads to Asia for two rounds in China and the grand finals in Sharjah, UAE.I cant wait to show what I can do once I get on my own ski in the next couple of races!Like, Tag & Share!
