Hot Weekend in Colonial Beach VA

Pro-Am Runabout Open saw plenty of action this weekend at Colonial Beach, VA, but at the end of it all, it was Britain’s James Bushell who reeled in the Liberty Cup by winning all three motos.

British Invasion! Pro Runabout Open CB-7-20-2013

Bushell, who has flown in from the U.K. to make every Hydro-Turf National Watercross tour stop and has made a strong statement by not allowing another rider to make their way to the top spot. It didn't come easy though, Bushell had to fend off some great riders out of Florida and fellow international rider Addullah Alfadel out of Kuwait City, Kuwait.  Alfadhel tried his best, pushing his Yamaha to a second overall by finishing 4-3-2 in consecutive motos, but it wasn't enough to compete with Bushell this weekend.  The second place finish was good enough for Alfadel to maintain his National Tour points lead but left an opportunity for Bushell to keep climbing in the tour points.

Erminio Iantosca out of Naples, Florida saw his overall victory chances disappear when his Sea Doo had mechanical issues in the second moto.  The 10th place finish which diminished his 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 1st and 3rd motos. Notable performances were also put in by Eric Francis out of West Palm Beach, Florida and Claude Clayton from Tupelo, Mississippi.  They finished 4th and 5th respectively.

Rockn' Rick Sherker Takes the Liberty Cup | Pro Ski GP CB 7/20/2013

Rick Sherker undoubtedly came into the Liberty Cup race with confidence. Surrounded by friends and family from Region 8, Rick stayed consistent with 1-1-3 finishes over the weekend.  Rick almost saw his victory slip into the hands of Jimmy Wilson when he had a bad start in the third moto, but he worked his way through the pack and eventually made the pass on Bill "the hurricane" Haig to ensure the  Liberty Cup victory.

It was an exciting weekend for Jimmy Wilson, who finally got off the couch to join the National tour and mix it up with the world's best.  It was Jimmy's first tour stop of the year, but he didn't miss a beat with his 2nd place overall.  Riding a Kawasaki jetski that seemed to be breathing fire, Jimmy contended for the lead all weekend, even at one point dropping he's engine cover into the brackish waters of the Potomac River to try and get more air into his engine.  Billy "the hurricane" Haig also put in an amazingly consistent performance with 3-3-4 finishes, locking up a podium spot.

Noticeably absent from the podium was the world's greatest Chris MacClugage who had a rare crash in the second moto.  This lead to a 6th place finish which would ultimately take him out of contention. MacClugage did win the 3rd and final moto, this helped him hold onto his National Tour points lead.

      Freestyle Thrills Colonial Beach Locals

      CB 7.20.2013

Fans packed the beach and lined the pier at Colonial Beach for what was most likely the most popular event of the weekend.  Pro Freestyle's Daniel Martin raised the bar this weekend with one of the best freestyle performances in recent history. Martin pulled off dozens of tricks and combinations, thrilling the Colonial Beach locals.  The fans went into an all-out frenzy when Martin busted out consecutive flat water back flips. A group of fans even gathered along the pier for a chance to be sprayed by last year's Amateur National Freestyle champion.

Martin was accompanied on the podium by close friend and riding partner,  Jace Forest. Both of them laid down the law with multiple flip and spin tricks that spanned the history of freestyle Jetskiing.  This all sat well with the judges who put them 1 and 2 on the podium. In pro fashion, Martin, Forest, and Parr all stayed around to sign autographs for adoring fans.
