Michelle Petro The day kicked off with the Naturally Aspirated (NA) class and saw #84 Clay Barbee (Yamaha) and #8 Rob Hoffman (SeaDoo) advancing to the semifinals to be held tomorrow. The Stock class saw Troy Snyder (Yamaha) and Stan Hightower, (Yamaha) maintain their place in the winner’s bracket throughout the day. Husband and wife team, Kerry and April Hibdon, (Yamaha) both made it to the semi-finals in the Spec class and will face off against each other tomorrow. Our guess is that April, who is arguably the fastest woman on water, will manage to keep her husband at bay. (That is only if Kerry knows what is good for him!) Victor Gonzalez and Carlos Cruz both on Yamaha pwc also made it to the semifinals by overcoming a loss early on in the game and pushing their way up through the loser bracket. The Superstock class rounded out the day with an unexpected upset when Ernesto Calas (SeaDoo) managed to place Kerry Hibdon (Yamaha) in the loser’s bracket. Ernesto was ecstatic and in disbelief that he managed to beat Kerry. “You are the best Kerry and way faster than me,” Ernesto stated. “I just can’t believe it.” It is always great to see a handshake between competitors after a win fair and square.Ernesto beat out Victor Gonzalez to stay in the winner’s bracket and will go up against Stan Hightower tomorrow. The Greenhulk Hydrodrags will continue tomorrow with speed alley taking off first thing in the morning with the semifinals of today’s classes and unlimited class tearing up the waters. See you guys there! [fblike]
The season kick off of the 2014 Greenhulk Hydrodrags went down today in the beautiful town of Tavares, FL. Wooten Park, Tavares sits on the shore of Lake Dora and is the home of round one of the drags. Pro Rider was proud to be there and support these guys and gals and to be able to report the day’s movers and shakers. After minor technical difficulties with the starting gate, the drags took off in true high speed fashion.Story and Photos by
