Great Lakes Watercross is excited to share our 2022 season schedule. Great Lakes Watercross will be running a six round closed course racing series from June to August 2022 and will be adding 4 new location stops to the tour. In September, we will be hosting a Midwest National race event near Indianapolis, Indiana. On the series tour, we have three inland lake events, and three Lake Michigan events so we are sure to have some flat and some rough water racing.
Great Lakes Watercross will be opening the 2022 Series tour on June 4th & 5th with the first location one of our racer favorites, the Lure Bar & Grill in Rome, WI. This race site is located on the beautiful shores of Lake Petenwell and racer pit parking is located on a bluff overlooking the lake and race course. The water conditions on this lake can be unpredictable, it is not unusual for 3-5 foot rolling waves to blow into the bay at any time of the day. Stick around at the end of the day for the most beautiful sunset on the bluff!
Moving to southeastern Wisconsin, the next series stop is Fathers Day weekend June 18th & 19th at North Beach in Racine on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. North Beach is a beach and park which offers open sandy areas, a large kids cove pirate themed playground, and an all around family-friendly atmosphere. This Racine event will be unique in that it will be the first round of the Freestyle Triple Crown series. There will be a Freestyle competition happening alongside our regular closed course racing event giving the spectators a thrilling day at the beach.
In July, Great Lakes Watercross is excited to partner with P1 AquaX to host closed course racing at two of their world class endurance events in Indiana July 9th & 10th at Washington Park in Michigan City and July 30th & 31st on Stone Lake in La Porte. These events both are very well attended by local spectators and we are looking forward to showing off some very fast paced closed course racing. Michigan City and La Porte are very welcoming cities to racers and their families and we feel honored to be included in their weekend events.
A short two weeks after the second Indiana event, we will be returning to the shores of Lake Michigan August 13th-14th at Pennoyer Park in Kenosha Wisconsin. Pennoyer Park is a 39 acre beach park with a band clamshell, playground, and miles of walking and biking trails to discover. This event will be the 5th in the series and the 3rd and final round of the Freestyle Triple Crown series. We will be crowning the Freestyle champions and sending the winners home with cash and a grand prize of a free entry into the IJSBA World Finals in October 2022. Kenosha beaches are always full during the warm summer months, and we will be sure to have a full beach of spectators enjoying the racing and freestyle shows.
The Great Lakes Watercross series championship will be held as the final round of the 2022 Series returning to where we started, the Lure Bar & Grill in Rome, Wisconsin. This round will have 3 motos of racing to complete the series on Saturday August 27th. After the racing is completed for the day, there will be our regular round awards as well as the series awards banquet and dinner. Great Lakes Watercross and the Lure Bar & Grill partner to host a buffet dinner and raffle for all racers and families. After dinner there will be a racer party at the Lure Bar & Grill. Sunday will be reserved for a family fun day and there will be a limited closed course race track available for practice and fun for the entire family!
The final Great Lakes Watercross event will be a Midwest National event on September 10th & 11th in Noblesville Indiana, just outside of Indianapolis. This national event will be a last chance qualifier for the IJSBA World Finals in Lake Havasu City, AZ October 1-9th 2022. We are expecting several National and World Champions to attend this exciting new race! The race site is located at Morse Park & Beach which is a state park of Indiana. The park & beach will be closed for their regular operating season and only open for our National Closed Course racing event, reserving the entire beach for a weekend of watercross!
