GRAND CAYMAN PWC RACING IN PARADISE! “The Easter Bunny brought me Jerk Chicken”
By: Mike Young(North Side, Grand Cayman) Racing in Paradise continued in 2019 with “The Challenge,” which took place at a jam-packed venue, full of spectators, as they cheered on their favorite racers and teams at Kaibo Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. The event was supported and powered by MARMEE, Captain Eugene Ebanks, JP, MLA - Councilor of Environment, Culture and Housing and elected member for West Bay Central of the Cayman Islands, Hurley’s Media and Irie 98.9 FM, Hydro-Turf, and Jet Pilot. High-speed personal watercraft and powerboats came together for “The Challenge” on April 21st, 2019, Easter Sunday, racing for over $10,000 in cash and prizes, but most of all, bragging rights! Endurance racing consisted of 3 motos with Amateur and Pro Open Classes with teammates, Gary “GJ” Whittaker and Matthew Panton, of Nuttin 2 Lose Racing, and Nathan Ebanks, of Tony’s Toys Watercraft Racing, taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd finishes in the Pro Open Class respectively. GJ suffered a mechanical issue in the second race, and Vanjae Ramgeet, from PYT Team, missed out on points from race #1, which landed him in 4th, but a valiant effort gave him a redemption win in the second race.In the Amateur Open Class, Anthony Logan, “the Mean Machine” was unstoppable, taking 3 wins, in as many races; Chris Bodden, finished 2nd, coming out of retirement! Dylan McLaughlin took 3rd in a battle with all the wave warriors! In the power boat class, Mark “Tony” Hydes took 1st place as he was unchallenged as his competition, “BLEW UP” on the way to the start of the first of 5 drag races. The show was awesome, the people were great, and the Brooks family did an amazing job in their first event and are to be commended. Entertainment and activities kept the excitement going with a Fly Board show courtesy of Cay Jet Watersports, Lotus car-displays from Cayman Islands Motorsports Association, an adult Easter Egg Hunt, (I found the yolk), and vibes from IRIE 98.9’s KoolFace.A. Scott Photography, Jeremy Walsh and KCM Photography should also be recognized as they made all of us heroes! The Challenge attendees satisfied their cravings with food from Island Bites and sweet treats from the Cayman Islands Imperial Beauties. This was the first race of The Challenge series and MARMEE Entertainment looks forward to its growth by inviting international racers and attendees. This was also the first event produced at the new race site and it was very successful. A very special thanks to Mr. Mason at the Comfort Suites, which provided yours truly, with some great accommodations and my brother, Kane, over at Pepper’s for keeping it real!
