Record championship season gets underway this weekend with new venues and rising competitor numbers. All roads lead to Daytona Beach this week for the country’s P1 AquaX jet ski racers as they prepare for the opening round of the 2014 race season. Competing in four classes, more than 50 riders will be on the start line on Saturday (April 26) to begin their challenge for the national titles. Daytona was the venue last summer for the launch of P1 AquaX in the USA with just 7 competitors and, as happened in the UK, the innovative racing concept has quickly attracted both recreational and elite riders. Riders from the UK, Canada, Indonesia and the Cayman Islands will be in Daytona this weekend and a stand up ‘ski class’ will make its debut in the USA.Speaking at its Orlando office, P1 USA director Azam Rangoonwala said: “The name Daytona is synonymous with outstanding motorsport and P1 is happy to be part of it and be hosted again by the Plaza Resort and Spa. This is the perfect start to our 5-venue series and the challenging conditions that we are expecting will deliver some great sport and entertainment. We will be making a major announcement in Daytona that reflects the growing interest in P1 AquaX and the rising number of competitors.”Leading UK rider Dave Huddleston is excited about racing in Daytona: “I’ve seen the footage from last year’s event and it looks very different from what I’m used to at home. Battling the Daytona surf is going to be both thrilling and demanding. The appeal of AquaX is that it’s a demanding and hugely competitive racing formula.”The P1 AquaX series will visit Jacksonville, Space Coast and St. Cloud this summer, with another high-profile venue to be announced later this month.P1 AquaX sponsors and partners include BRP Sea-Doo, Yamaha, Hydo Turf, Pro Rider Watercraft Magazine and Lycamobile. A presenting partner will be announced in Jacksonville on 24 April. For the full race itinerary of the day
