New venues and 2014 calendar announced as Champions crowned.Championship Awards celebrations are occasions for looking back at the year’s outstanding achievements, but P1 chief executive James Durbin chose the annual gathering of SuperStock powerboat teams and AquaX jet ski riders in Oxfordshire last night to also announce next year’s race calendar for its two UK championships.Bournemouth and Gosport will join Hull and Torquay on the 2014 Superstock schedule expanding to a 15-race series and P1 is in advanced discussions with the Welsh Government and City of Cardiff for the Wales Grand Prix of the Sea to become the feature event of the 2014 series. The AquaX Championships will start earlier in the year, on May bank holiday weekend, at this year's final venue St Lawrence Bay in Essex. The series will then join the P1 Superstock in Bournemouth, Hull, Cardiff and Torquay.“We will launch the new season with a two-day exhibition event and open day, featuring SuperStock match racing and a special AquaX challenge, at London Docklands at the end of March, and Bournemouth will host our opening championship weekend for both classes at the end of May” said Durbin. “We are also close to concluding a three-year agreement with the Welsh Government and City of Cardiff for the Wales Grand Prix of the Sea to become the feature event of the series. Our P1 events will again be a double bill of powerboat and jet ski racing, with a total six championship races over the weekend.”The expansion of its race programme in the USA (to be announced later this month) will make P1 the world’s largest marine motorsport promoter, with a total of 20 SuperStock teams on the water on both sides of the Atlantic, together with more than 70 AquaX riders. “2013 has been an outstanding year for P1 in our 10th anniversary of promoting the sport, and the launch of the P1 AquaX brand in the USA was undoubtedly one of the highlights” commented P1 chief operating officer Robert Wicks. “We’ve seen powerboat racers crisscrossing the Atlantic this summer to compete in both SuperStock series and this will continue next year, reflecting our growing international stature.”Provisional UK race dates for 2014:London Docklands – 28/29 March (tbc) - SuperStock Match Racing, AquaX Cup event, Exhibition & Open DaySt Lawrence Bay - 3/4 May (AquaX only)
